The average hourly wage rate for interns at the bachelor's degree level has essentially remained unchanged, while that for master’s degree students has jumped nearly 5 percent, according to results of NACE’s 2010 Internship Survey.
This year, the average rate for bachelor’s degree student interns is $17 per hour, a decrease of 0.8 percent from last year’s average of $17.13.
The top average hourly rates by major for bachelor’s degree student interns are:
- Actuarial science—$20.26
- Mathematics—$19.02
- Statistics—$19.02
- Engineering—$18.31
- Computer science—$18.20
Meanwhile, the 2010 average hourly wage rate for master’s degree student interns is $24.29. This represents an increase of 4.8 percent over last year’s average rate of $23.18.
NACE’s 2010 Internship Survey ran from January 11 through February 26, and 235 employers responded. The survey report will be available this spring.
